Por que é importante estudar inglês?

Outro dia um aluno passou a aula inteira dizendo que não gosta de inglês e não vê utilidade alguma em se aprender essa língua. Eu perguntei o que ele pretende ser na vida. A resposta foi: Técnico em eletrônica. Uau! Ele quer ser técnico em eletrônica e não vê utilidade em se aprender inglês??? Como assim???
Gente, eu seria capaz de escrever centenas de motivos, por lazer ou profissionalmente, para se estudar inglês, mas vou me limitar aos óbvios:

• Quem quer ser técnico em qualquer área vai ter que ler muita coisa em inglês;
• Muitas profissões dependem do conhecimento do inglês, principalmente as ligadas a ciência e tecnologia;
• Para conseguir bons empregos;
• Entender filmes sem depender de legendas (muitas vezes erradas);
• Entender músicas;
• Ler revistas e livros estrangeiros;
• Navegar na web;
• Viajar pelo mundo inteiro. O inglês É o que o esperanto tentou ser e não conseguiu: uma língua internacional;
• Etc, etc, etc...

Nós vamos sediar dois eventos esportivos internacionais muito importantes em breve: Os JOGOS OLÍMPICOS e A COPA DO MUNDO DE FUTEBOL. Como são eventos internacionais, muitos turistas estarão em nosso país por conta disso. Vocês já pensaram como será importante dominar o inglês para receber esssa gente toda que virá?

E vocês se lembram do Projeto Caminhos do Rio? (Vejam os posts do dia 29 de setembro). Vários alunos se encantaram com os turistas estrangeiros que encontraram no passeio. Muitos tentaram se comunicar com eles e até sentiram falta de um conhecimento maior da língua inglesa. Os que conseguiram trocar algumas palavras ficaram até emocionados. Que tal fazer parte desse grupo? Depende só de vocês! Podem contar com a gente!
